What is Google Business Profile?

In one sentence

A Google Business Profile is the free listing that shows your business on Google Search and Google Maps, with your hours, photos, reviews and contact details.

Why it matters for your business

Your Business Profile is often the first thing customers see when they search for your business or for a service near them. It’s what appears in the local pack and on Google Maps. Many people call, ask for directions or visit your website straight from it.

It used to be called Google My Business. Google renamed it Google Business Profile in late 2021.

Who can have one

Businesses that meet customers in person, either at their own location (like a shop or clinic) or at the customer’s location (like a plumber or cleaner). Service-area businesses can hide their address. Online-only businesses aren’t eligible.

How to check or improve it

  1. Search for your business name on Google Maps to see if a profile exists.
  2. Claim it, or create one at google.com/business, and complete verification.
  3. Use your real business name and the most accurate primary category.
  4. Fill in hours, services, description, photos and attributes.
  5. Keep it active with regular posts, new photos and replies to reviews.
